I recently proposed something on my blog as a third alternative, but in spite of numerous efforts have found no Republican friend willing to partner with me in this plan and few of my Democratic friends who support the idea, even though it has the advantage of not failing to leverage ones vote while engaging in some meaningful conversations with people with whom I have serious disagreements. https://harvyoder.blogspot.com/2024/09/to-avoid-voting-for-lesser-of-two-evils.html
My plan was designed for use in any state, in that two people would leverage their very small (but not insignificant) voting power by simply cancelling each other's vote prior to election day--rather than at the ballot box. The net result would be exactly the same, but the effect of having conversations with numerous people in opposing camps in coming up with someone willing to swap could be significant. Meanwhile, there's this: https://harvyoder.blogspot.com/2024/10/will-voting-for-better-party-save-us.html
I understand your point, but I don’t agree because I think this approach is largely self-serving. We need to have the courage to make hard decisions and have conflict about them, instead of scurrying away from difficulty.
I have been relentless in urging people to not vote for Trump, and exerted far more effort in this election than I ever have in my life, including this proposal to have people not "scurry away from difficulty" but to effectively cancel a vote for Trump in advance rather than accomplishing that at the ballot box. Paul Schrag at AW world saw merit in the idea and took the time to abbreviate what I sent him to submit as a letter to the editor.

I think swapping one’s vote for someone in an safe state is probably the best way forward for the conflicted.
